Woollim Entertainment Merges with SM Entertainment’s SM C&C To Form “Woollim Label”

SM C&C and Woollim Entertainment, the latter home to Infinite, Nell, and Tasty, will be merging to form a new label-”Woollim Label.”

SM C&C is a subsidary of SM Entertainment, and by merging with Woollim Ent., will be forming the independent label “Woollim Label.”

SM Entertainment will be in charge of the global distribution of the music and other businesses of artists’ under “Woollim Label,” while SM C&C will be in charge of the label’s functions.

With this move, SM Entertainment is on its way to become a major global music company in the likes of Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, and Sony Music Entertainment.

SHINee’s Jonghyun’s Self-Written “Selene 6.23″ Tops Music Charts

SHINee‘s newly released track “Selene 6.23” has been sweeping various music charts.

On August 8, SHINee’s combined official third album “The Misconceptions of Us” was released. As soon as the title track “Selene 6.23″ was revealed, it reached the number one spot on Olleh Music, Mnet, Bugs and Naver Music.

“Selene 6.23″ is an emotional ballad that showcases the SHINee members’ exceptional vocal skills. The sad lyrics are about a person who is in love but not being able to reach her. It is written by SHINee member Jonghyun.

Another new track, “Better Off” is included in the album. It is a mid-tempo pop ballad that beautifully expresses the sadness of a break-up.

Upon the release of the album, Jonghyun tweeted, “Yahoo! SHINee’s new songs in ‘The Misconceptions of Us’ have been released. It’s the combination of the ‘me’ and ‘you’ albums and there are two new songs, ‘Selene 6.23′ and ‘Better Off.’”

He continued to upload a funny photoshopped photo and tweeted, “After looking at the album cover, I feel the art soul?!” The photo contains a scene from the animation “Attack On Titan” with the giant’s face photoshopped into the face that is on SHINee’s album cover.

SM Entertainment to Open “SMTOWN Museum” in Los Angeles

SM Entertainment announced on August 7 that they will be opening a hybrid entertainment arena in Los Angeles. 

The tentative name of venue is “SMTOWN Museum.” SM Entertainment had considered opening a place in Hollywood for locals to experience Hallyu Wave, but after considering the influx of locals and tourists in Korean Town, the agency bought a building in the heart of Korea Town.

The building is located on the corner of Oxford street and will most likely be the location for the proposed “SMTOWN Museum.” 

A representative of SM Town said, “For long term and stable business promotion in the United States, SM Entertainment USA has purchased the building. It will be in the form of a museum with Korean restaurants, entertainment venues, and showcases that use hologram and other media.”

Recent Photo of Super Junior’s Yesung Revealed on His Twitter

Recently on his Twitter on July 8, Super Junior’s Yesung uploaded a photo along with a message, “Tornado Sung Joon. He visited me before going to the set of ‘I Hear Your Voice.’ Fighting!”

In the released picture are Yesung, actor Choi Sung Joon, and two other unknown men. Choi Sung Joon is currently appearing on the SBS’s popular drama “I Hear Your Voice.” As the two stars smile for the camera, both Yesung and Choi Sung Joon look gorgeous in this photo.

Netizens that saw this picture commented, “Who are the other men beside Yesung?” “I guess Yesung and Choi Sung Joon are good friends,” and “Good looking friends.”

Interview With EXO Part 1: “We Have to Shower Together Two to Three People at a Time”

EXO-K and EXO-M joined forces with a joint comeback on June 3 under the group name EXO. The group is currently busy promoting with “Wolf,” the title track from the first studio album “XOXO (Kiss&Hug),” but still managed to set aside time for an interview covered by Ilgan Sports.

- It’s your second year since debut. Do you feel your popularity?

Suho: “Our parents and friends are starting to tell us, ‘You guys are now getting popular.’ There are more people who sing along to our songs. Our album did really well in sales and, it was only for a short while, but we also placed first. Even though people don’t know us individually, I’m really happy that more people know about our group.”

Chanyeol: “Now, it’s come to the point that there would not be enough seats for fans at the music stations. We would hold a mini fan meeting after the filming because we feel but, but there are about 700 fans who visit us now. If we compare it with our debut, our fanbase grew so much. There are fans who come wearing hanboks (Korean traditional costume) and I also saw fans who came with wolf pajamas. I’m thankful that fans think about us.”

- After debuting last year, it took about a year for your next promotion period.

D.O.: “In order to come out with a better album, we invested a lot of time into our recording and performances. During that time, it felt like we returned to our trainee days. Maybe that’s the reason why it feels like we made a new debut this time.”

- There’s a lot of talks about the choreography for “Wolf.” What were your thoughts when you first saw the choreography?

Baekhyun: “It was art. The dramatic choreography left a deep impression. It was like each movement was alive. It was difficult to express the details of a wolf’s lips to the ears. It took a long time to perfect. It was also difficult to adjust when the choreographer change the moves whenever there’s a new idea.”

Kai: “Because I got injured during the beginning of everyone learning the choreography, I wasn’t able to practice with them and felt sorry. Famed choreographer Tony Testa came to teach the choreography and I had a hard time losing the opportunity to practice with him.”

- Now you’re promoting as one unit. What are the advantages?

Suho: “Out of all the groups promoting now, we’re one of the largests. Since we move around with twelve members, we stand out. If we add in the staff, it’s thirty of us. We have to split up and use two cars to move around. I want to say that since there’s so many of us, it looks like we are something. I feel reassured and confident. We can also do more in our choreography.”

Baekhyun: “A lot of fun things happen. There is a house helper for each EXO-K and EXO-M and they even started working together. Heard that they got really close.”

- Any cons to a large group?

Chanyeol: “When we shower. Since there are only two bathrooms in the dorms, two or three of us have to shower together at a time. We decide who showers when by who arrives first. When we finish our schedules and park in the garage, we don’t even wait for the elevator and bolt up the stairs. We go straight towards the bathroom to shower.”

EXO’s First Official Album Tops iTunes Charts Internationally

SM‘s newest idol group EXO have secured the #1 spot on the iTunes charts for multiple countries in just six hours after their first official album was released!

As of 6:30 (KST) on June 3, EXO’s first full-length album “XOXO (Kiss & Hug)” has ranked #1 on the iTunes Album Chart in Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia. The album is ranked at #2 in Hong Kong and the Philippines while it ranks #4 in Malaysia, #5 in Japan and #11 in Taiwan.

In the US, EXO’s album ranks #70 while it ranks #48 in Canada and #69 in Australia.

“XOXO (Kiss & Hug)” contains the title track “Wolf” as well as “Don’t Go,” “3.6.5,” “Heart Attack,” “Peter Pan,” “Baby,” and others, for a total of 12 tracks. The album contains a diverse tracklist, ranging from a young love song like “Don’t Go,” a bright and energetic melody in “3.6.5,” a mysterious and groovy club track like “Heart Attack,” a nostalgic and innocent love song like “Peter Pan,” and many more.

SHINee’s Minho And Onew Use “Manner Legs”

A photo of Onew and Minho using “manner legs” has recently been a topic of interest online. 

On May 31, SHINee‘s Onew, Key and Minho made guest appearance on Tooniverse‘s “Nangam School.” During the recording of the show, Onew and Minho bent their knees or spread their legs apart to accommodate the height of the younger cast members. In the photo, the boys are caught receiving a bonk on the head for losing a game.

EXO-K and EXO-M Join Together to Make a Comeback

Great news! The long-awaited comeback for EXO is happening and this time, instead of as separate units, the boys ofEXO-K and EXO-M are coming together as one group. 

SM Entertainment made this announcement with two teaser posters that look like they came off an yearbook. All twelve members are dressed in school uniforms, and while in one poster they all look like good, well-behaved students, the second poster shows them looking like mischievous trouble-makers.

Girl’s Generation Yuri Forms Love Triangle with Lee Jong Suk and Seo In Gook

Girl’s Generation member Yuri has been confirmed to star in a movie, alongside Lee Jong Suk and Seo In Gook. The film is called “No Breathing” and will be about a “swimming genius” who distances himself from swimming, played by Seo In Guk, and a rising star swimmer, played by Lee Jong Suk. Yuri will play the role of “Jung Eun,” who dreams of becoming a musician. She is described as someone who has a free and easy personality, innocent-looking face, and an emotional singing voice. She is childhood friends with Lee Jong Suk and Seo In Gook’s characters, forming a love triangle with them.

“No Breathing” is written by Yoo Young Ah, who also wrote the heart-warming movie hit, “Miracle in Cell No.7.”

Yuri commented on her casting, “I liked the character while reading the ‘No Breathing’ scenario. I will work hard to make a good movie.” 

Filming starts May 19 and “No Breathing” is expected to premier in the latter half of this year.

Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung Changes Her Style for “Cyrano”

Girls’ Generation‘s Sooyoung, whom fans are used to seeing in trendy and ornate outfits on stage, has changed her style for her role in the upcoming drama “Dating Agency: Cyrano.”

On May 12, producers of the drama released pictures of Sooyoung in her role as Gong Min Young, who is described as a bright romanticist. The pictures show Sooyoung looking like a normal office worker instead of the charismatic and sexy image Sooyoung has onstage.

According to the producers, Sooyoung is showing a lot of affection for her role and is paying careful attention to every single detail from acting to styling for her character. Producer Kim Hee Jun said, “It is not just the outfits only but she also seems to have completely become the character in her acting. I think viewers will be able to see her upgraded acting in this drama.”

“Dating Agency: Cyrano” is a drama centered on a dating agency that helps people awkward in love. It is slated to be a 16-episode drama and will premier May 27 on tvN.

Super Junior’s Kyuhyun to Replace SHINee’s Minho in “Mamma Mia”

SHINee‘s Minho, who has been one of the MCs for the KBS variety show “Mamma Mia” since April, will be leaving his position in order to focus on his group concert tour in Japan and other countries. 

Super Junior‘s Kyuhyun, who is also currently an MC for MBC’s “Radio Star,” will be replacing Minho. Minho’s last episode will be shown on May 12 and Kyuhyun will make his first appearance on May 19.

SHINee Dances Sherlock with Lucky Fans on “Dream Team”

On the May 12 episode, KBS’ “Let’s Go Dream Team Season 2” and SHINee visited the Dong Sun Jung Bo High school to compete with the school’s female soccer team. Before the main competition, a group of fans performed SHINee’s “Sherlock” in front of Minho, Taemin, Onew, and Key. They performed with all their hearts, hoping to impress their oppas.

In the middle of the song, the SHINee members got up and joined the female students, making them some of the luckiest Shawols out there. Each member performed their parts with the students and even posed affectionately together for the camera. Viewers could hear the jealous and happy screams of other fans at the school watching the performance in the background audio of the show.

SHINee’s Onew Shows Gentlemanly Manner

On the May 12 episode of KBS’ “Let’s Go Dream Team Season 2″  the four members of SHINee, comedian Noh Woo Jin, and Secret’s Sunhwa appeared to compete against a high school female soccer team.

One of the game involved Onew doing a penalty kick while carrying a female soccer player on his back. As the student was wearing a pair of shorts, Onew showed thoughtfulness as he tried to keep his hands in fists to avoid touching her bare legs.

Onew also beautifully sang a song, impressing all the female players.

Meanwhile, SHINee’s Jonghyun could not appear on this show due to recent injury. In his place was comedian Noh Woo Jin, who used to be a soccer player in high school.

BoA Plans to Make Her Comeback in Japan

The news of BoA’s return to Japan is exciting her Japanese fans.

This coming June, BoA plans to release her new Japanese album. Although she released her album “Only One” in Japan in February this year, it consisted of Japanese versions of Korean hits made in 2012.

“K-Pop Star” Contestant Andrew Choi Composed SHINee’s “Why So Serious?”

It was recently revealed that “K-Pop Star” season 2 contestant, Andrew Choiworked on SHINee‘s latest album as a composer. Although he did not end up winning K-Pop Star, the talented singer has been busy showcasing his skills in other areas of K-Pop. 

On April 26, SM Entertainment announced that Andrew Choi along with Kenzieand Kim Jung Bae were the talented creators behind SHINee‘s title comeback track “Why So Serious?“

Not only did Andrew work on SHINee’s title track, but also “SHINe(Medusa I)” and “Dangerous (Medusa II)” with internationally renown producer and composerTeddy Riley. 

Unlike most run-of-the-mill K-Pop tracks about jaded or one-sided love, SHINee’s title track “Why So Serious?” is a unique song about a zombie who falls in love with a human girl.

In related news, SHINee released their third album in two parts, “Chapter 1. Dream Girl – The Misconceptions of You” and “Chapter 2. Dream Girl – The Misconceptions of Me” that carry different concepts. The four members have been busy promoting their album without member Jonghyun who has been recovering since his car accident. 

Super Junior’s “Super Show 5 in Sao Paulo” Was a Great Success!

Super Junior successfully started out their South American tour in Sao Paolo, Brazil on April 21. “Super Show 5 in Sao Paulo” is Super Junior’s first independent concert in South America as well as the first concert in “Super Show 5.” As a result, the tickets to “Super Show 5 in Sao Paulo” were sold out quickly and the show attracted approximately 8,000 people.  

Super Junior performed 24 different stages including their debut single “Twins,” “Sorry Sorry,” “Bonamana,” “Mr. Simple,” “Sexy, Free & Single,” as well as special unit performances and other songs included in their albums. They also performed a special stage of “Ai Se Eu Te Pego,” originally sung by Brazilian singerMichel Telo. Moreover, Super Junior prepared some Portuguese phrases such as, “Did you miss us?” “We missed you,” and “Let’s have fun tonight,” trying to communicate more directly with the fans.  

Fans in the audience seemed to have enjoyed their favorite K-Pop artist’s performance, too. They danced and sang along with Super Junior throughout the concert. Approximately 140 fans in the audience were too excited and overwhelmed by the concert and ended up fainting and/or being escorted out of the arena. The prepared local medical team members were surprised by the number of patients they were dealing with, as this has never been the case even at international pop super stars’ concerts. 

Super Junior thanked their fans after the concert, “We flew from Korea for 25 hours for this South American tour. We thought you guys are far away, but realized that we are so close to each other when we were on the stage. When we first made our debut, we never expected that we would be able to host an independent concert all the way in Brazil, but it happened. We are so thankful to have you guys, who let us set new records and make our dreams come true.”  

Super Junior, as the first Korean artist team to embark on such a large-scaled concert tour series in South America, will continue “Super Show 5″ in Buenos Aires, Argentina on April 23.
